This contest was looking for a 2 minute video to accurately and creatively answer these questions about internet cookies: What is a cookie? How do cookies work? How can cookies be used? How is the data from cookies used with data collected in other ways, including from third parties? How can cookies be misused? What options does a user have to manage cookies and their use?
One week after submitting our video in the Cookie Crumbles contest (sponsored by Stopbadware.org and the Harvard Law Berkman Center) we were notified that our video was a top 5 finalist! As a finalist, we won a trip to Washington, D.C., where our video was viewed and discussed at the United States Federal Trade Commission’s Town Hall workshop, “Ehavioral Advertising: Tracking, Targeting, and Technology.”
At the Town Hall meeting a panel of six judges chose the grand prize winner. Although we didn’t get the judges vote, we received the Audience Favorite. As Justin likes to say, “We got Al Gore’d in D.C.”
